Actually they make up for lack of defence with high damage. They are not needing a downtune as far as I know. Some older melee guilds (especially militia) might needs some uptune injections though. Just don't make that mistake of uptuning ranger off or def qualities. Otherwise we'd lose our ability...

I think that Bladesingers are so fed up of all these ranger tree-hugging things that they sign off rangers and are one of the crucial members forming the new Bard guild! Of course, they'll get bit weaker at melee but will gain something in exchange.. And they'll represent the melee branch of the bar...
