rangers dont need to be more defensive. If hitpoints are a problem, you are doing it wrong.

To keep balance, why not take the +skill bonuses away when in forest and give them a better chance of avoiding hits ":D"

Ranger tunes and tweaks: log of everburning is a spell that makes torches last longer, and is available at level 26 or so. meanwhile, extended vision lets you see farther into the light/dark spectrum without need for torches, and is gotten in the first 10 levels. Mages are built to blast foes at a range. They're all about dealing damage, but have all the defensive value of a sheet of tissue paper. Could loggers and carpenters be tweaked to make them more viable? [/canofworms]. Possibly alchemists too, to make them more than incense-makers? Loggers and carpenters imho are good as they are, giving out good statbonuses and some extra shite to do. Loggers already give perhaps the best stat bonus...

Nerf melee durability to oblivion.
Give 2handed wield a chance.
Do something to give all guilds a real edge when doing eq.
