Name that guild contest!

Post by misrobo »

It seems a few tiny bands of hardy people have been surviving out in the frozen wastes beyond the valley for generations. They are a primitive people who have survived by nomadically following and killing the ice crawlers. They are fierce warriors, for in their world anything less than victory is extinction for their tribe.

Recently they have discovered Icesus and though they are landless, kingdomless, poor, ignorant of the elemental gods, and unwanted... it looks like they plan to stay.

The people of Icesus are going to need a name for these newcomers. So, people of Icesus... propose a name, chime in "me too" or "that's stupid" if you wish... there will be fabulous prizes for your effort. (For a certain definition of fabulous.)

The Fierce - or possibly some variant, such as The Fierced, The Fiercen or The Fiercemen.

Edit: Reapers of the Ice; Reapers of the Frozen Wastelands

few ideas:

- Wanderers from the Glacier

- Ugh, me strong!

- Glacial Savages

- Soomalaaset

- Warriors (of blah blah)

- War Orcs!

- Berserkers of Northlands

- Brutes (who guild brute, has a nice ring to it) <- my favourite
or maybe Brutes of <something fancy place here>

added these because I'm an elf...

- Those stinky men. (you asked a name the vaerlonians would call them)
- Tall dwarves... (see the 'Those stinky men')

sounds like a human and orc only guild...I like it already...
and I just hope they are not diablo/wow barbarian fighters with several different battlecrys of many various effects... :/

Since hunter gatherer nomads, it could be likely that they would have a gutteral language (like orcish or germanic). while there name might MEAN brutes or the tribe, it would be something like Solovic or Gracock.

because of their nomandic life-style vaerlonians would call them nomands or because they come from land of frost they would be called as frostlings

Eww, we already have half_lings_... that -ling suffix sounds like another diminutive form, and true men of the North will not most likely want such a mocking name for themselves.

But yeah, what races can join them? It'd be easier to come up with a proper name if you'd share this much.

And, imho, we don't need any (extra) 'human-only' guilds.

I also don't like any fantasy-like names for guilds, anything with "Ga'agah-de suboutieskoleTH"-like names (aposthrophes, -th suffixes) feels so dreadfully childish. Stick with your Harry Potter's and 'Moo Goes to the Faerie World' but don't make us bear them.

War Adept(s).

Or...

Northern Disciples.
(ie. students of the harsh climate of the outer ice)

I'll also put in endorsement vote for Glacial Savages.
(who guild savage!)

Kelvians. In referrence to Kelvin, the scale used to determine how far away a temperature is from Absolute zero. Since its pretty damn cold out there...Yeah, you get the point.

A name the vaerlonians would call em? Freeze pops.. As in, argh, I ran into another one of those damn Freeze pops today! Tackled my horse, couldnt tell wether it wanted to eat the thing, or something worse. I ran screaming like a ninny all the way back to Vaerlon!
