Good point, but maybe mages don't need to say much during spellcasting. With bards it will be like:
Brave *Ouch* Sir *Ouch* Robin *Ouch* ran away *ouch ouch*, bravely ran away away.. *mega ouch*

Btw, i realy hope songs from Monty Python find they're way into Icesus. Maybe not related to icesus, but _fun_. Hopefully no copyright issues with that.

As much as I do love monty python, I seriously doubt we'll see anything from it in the game.

That concentration thing sounds good. I'll have to think about it really carefully but it sounds like a great idea.

Can there be anything more to be said =)

and etadan, so you just think that the mages say one word and thats it.. last time I casted a spell it said you start concentrating on a spell. It takes some time to cast it.. enough time to interrupt what ever you were doing..

Well that's my point with mages getting interupted when they get hit, and not just because of "OOF" but if your arm gets hit it's going to mess up whatever pysical component the spell has.

The concentration thing though does have certain bad points also. It makes soloing, especially for small players, really hard if all your song spells are interupted by hits.

This concentration thing only will (if it gets done) bards. I see no point tuning mages in anyway.

I decided to include the concentration thing into the bards. Also I wanted to tell you about some other skills for bards:

Bardic lore: Helps in storytelling. When bardic lore is high enough it can be used to identify items as bards have seen many kinds of items during their travels.
Storytelling: Possibility tell your own tales with storytelling skill. Also you can tell rumours from rumour database that is open for all bards. This helps in bardic reputation (see above messages).
Fortune telling: Similar to Huck's fortune telling in gypsy camp.
Live performance: Skill that is only gained by playing to an audience. Reduces penalties of playing to many people at ones. When high gives boost to various things.
Encore: Allows bard to sing the same song he last sung with half sp cost.

Then there's the singing skills and instrument playing skills. Also instruments are made with 'craft instrument' skill which is a bit similar to bow making.

If you have any ideas for new skills or song spells drop a message or two :)

It probably helps if you know what song spells I have already planned so here:
Taming of beasts: This song slows animals and makes aggressive mounts non-aggressive.
Tale of dancing blades: This song takes several blades from bard's inventory and they start dancing in the air and attack his opponents.
Twilight of fairies: A healing song with some other features ;)
Rest thy feet: Ep regen song.
Victory be ours: Boosts combat stuff.
Phantom orchestra: Summons a phantom version of the preferred instrument of the bard allowing him to use his hands freely for other tasks.
"Charm song": Name tells everything.
"Curse song": Penalties for various things
"Calming song": Ends the combat in room and makes in non-fight room for some time.

and several others I don't want to talk about yet ;)

that all sounds great, especially the calming song. i can see it now.

.oO( Lemi says, "FOOD FIGHT!!!" )
( Ereldon ducks behind the trash can. )
( Lemi and a bunch of other newbies duck, )
( and throw, duck and throw, bread and )
( pieces of rotten meat skipping through )
( the air. )
( Some uptight highbie screams, "Hey!! No )
( fighting at Ereldon!! Go to the Arena!!!", )
( and then plays the Calming Song on his )
( flute. )

Speaking of the Arena, you should probably make it so that the Calming Song can't be played there.
