I was thinking, wood exists as a weapon and armor type in the game. I could be wrong as design plans are about as common as mithril in the real world, but I've never seen any crafted wooden armors or weapons. Sure they would be weak, but they could provide leatherworkers a way to practice their craft.
Cork trees could be implemented that allow the creation of items of comparable weight to leather and harvested without a sawing partner. This of course would be useless for existing carpentry items.
This would give carpenters the equivalent to spamming leather earrings for lbd, and the ability to have a chance for random glows and a useable item.
