Train!

Post by rotax »

Icesus should build a steam powered train that would work much like the ferry. You could set up a large loop of traintracks for it to run on, too.

Just because steam wasnt invented until the 1800's in our world, doesnt mean that icesus doesnt have that technology. And the train would only make a few stops, its not like you can jump off the train anywhere you want. For example, you could have the train go to atherton and back to vaerlon. And a fee is probably a good idea.

Some kind of carriage system seems like the thing in place instead of that train. :)

Instead of trians, a quite more easyer thing could be created.

Rentable mounts.

You rent a mount only for a short time. Speeding up your travels quite easyly and you also might get sligthly better at riding (making it far more easy for you to one day buy your own mount). So instead of paying 100k+feats for a mount, pay some 10-15k for the use of a mount for one boot. if you dont return the mount, you will be fined and you wont be able to rent another mount until you have payed the fine.

This would also make mounts more popular amongst lower level players.

Fine isn't enough, you shouldn't be able to use any stable services from any stables(for saving mount) until you have paid the fine, otherwise ppl would get very cheap wyverns or horses

If there is going to be a rent system, it shouldn't include any mounts other than the cheapest horses/ponies/mules...so no land wyverns at all. :P

This is true, only basic mounts should be available. Though I won't code such thing anyways, so my opinion matter just about as much as yours.

how about this, if you are not a part of a specific guild or subguild, you can only rent the worst of the worst in mounts, but if you are in the guild or subguild, then you can rent better animals depending on the level you are in, up to the biggest horse? and if you are too small for a horse, or too large, there would be things you could do, like dog or maybe mammoth.

This solution is not perfect. It does however have its advantages. I too agree that only the low price mounts should/could be available for rent. If you want a exotic mount, or an expensive warhorse, you must buy it. Renting should not be an abuse that enables you to get good mounts for little money, but a way to get mount for low level and low finances players. And as a bonus a way to boost your riding skills to one day buy a real mount.

and what would happen if the rented horse accidentally dies? You could get good horsemanship skills for cheap, and you could 'buy exp' too

would anyone really do this? the exp you get for a mount is compared to how strong the mounts are VERY bad. Killed my riding horse once and got 5k for that

I believe we have such a "technology" system, I believe it's called drifting.

The rent-a-mule is long overdue though. :D

What about if you kill the mount the renter would become pissed off with killing his asset and would go agro at you. That would be a good incentive of protecting your mount :D

If you manage to kill your rental mount...

The same thing happens that happens in the real world when you wreck your rental. You pay for it. If you don't have enough money..you get removed! (No insurance!)
Ok, maybe not removed but automatically when you sell your items on normal shops, 75-90% of the income would go straight to cover your debt. Should you sell your stuff on...more shady markets, this would not happen.
