Outworld map mode idea

Post by ayumi »

Hi, here's some background: I spend 90% of my ranger life in the outworld, and because of this I already know what all the outworld rooms look like, that the ripple in the swamp might be an alligator or whatever. =P I currently prefer brief mode because it cuts down on 'spam descriptions and exits' which take ages to load when I'm lagging (which is almost always :/ ). But even with brief mode I have to keep "look"ing.

So here's my idea, some kind of a map mode for the outworld, where all you see is the lil outworld map when you walk around (as shown in "hunt status"). No descriptions, no obvious exits (which are most of the time all directions anyway) no weather or sky info or water info. Just a map. If one desires to see the state of the weather or room descrip, they can just "look" or put verbose back on. Is goodgood yes?

So yeah I'd love that, maybe other outworlders might too. ^_^

it would need something that tells you what living things are in that area, but otherwise, i like that idea.

Yep, sounds like a great idea.

(I'd give you like 5 pdfs for this idea but I'm not a wizard :) )

Khade: yep I meant that livings would of course be shown. Didn't mean exactly like the hunt status map, just used it as a rough example.

Would it show items and monsters in the room as well?

Fantastic Idea - map + items + living things (mobs & others) - ditch the remaining description =D>

it could also be useful in any place that has a map already built in, like in most cities.

Yes! to see the city map and not the room description (but the items and creatures) would be very good mode. I support this idea!

Brief makes you blind and verbose is too spammy. I like the idea.

Couple more notes: Yes I did mean it would show items and monsters in the room as well. If it didn't then the idea would be verrrrry useless.
Also this wasn't to discourage people using verbose or brief mode either. There would still be a reason to type look, so it's not like goodbyyyyye descriptions! Nah.

Thanks for all the support! Hopefully the idea will be considered and implemented.

Implemented.
set brief_map 1
This gets a map if there is one available for brief
