If a trainee fighter one day wishes to master the maces perfectly, he must learn the skill maces. Everyone can swing a mace, but without training, they'll end up hitting their leg or nearest tree instead of the opponent. With this skill, the fighters ability to score hits in combat with maces rises, thus creating more damage to the opponent.
