This a bit worn leather fedora must have seen a lot action. You can see several hastily patched holes and tears in it, and part of its brim has been splashed with some strange substances. You remember seeing such a hat in old paintings, but they are definitely not a current fashion trend. As you remember, the hat in the painting was adorning a stern witch-hunter.
