The name policy of Icesus ------------------------- The basic rules: The Gods of Icesus frown upon plain stupid and offensive names. Individuals selecting an idiotic or offensive name will be removed from the game, no questions asked. Examples of such names: Muusikameli, Homopantteri (Finnish), Fart, Fuckface, Yousuck (English). The Gods of Icesus also frown upon ripped-off names. This includes names taken from characters and places (etc) in literature, movies, mythology, real life or such. Examples of such names: Conan, Gandalf, Raistlin, Avalon, Bill Clinton, Socrotes etc.. Come up with an original name that is suitable for a roleplaying game based loosely on medieval fantasy. Do NOT use existing words. Do NOT use modern names. Old English names, such as Sarah or Charles, may be used, but we prefer that you try to come up with a name of your own. Do NOT use commonly known abbreviations. Names consisting only of consonants are not endorsed. Examples of names that are also forbidden: Car, Light, Mickey, Peikko, Cia, Fbi, Rip, Gsm. Players who do not follow these rules will be forced to change a name. If the player refuses, his/her character will be removed from the game. Also a word about so called "test characters". We despise the idea of creating some characters with ultrastupid names just to read some helps or get the feeling of the mud or try out race and background combos. If you want to try out things just create a character, you can always reinc or use the command "suicide" and create it again with the same name. Other players should not try to enforce name policy, neither by tells or on channels. Doing so will lead to channel bans or even banishment. Please notice that the name policy has not always been in use. Characters created before the policy became effective may have names that would nowadays be against it. Hints ----- Sometimes finding such a name is not that easy. Here are some hints which should enable you to find one: 1. Use the name generator during character creation ("help namegenerator") 2. Find words in little known languages, e.g. Gikuyu, Indo-European, Javan, Mongolian,... Most European languages as well as Latin or Ancient Greek are not suitable. 3. Take your scrabble box and draw letters until they form a name. Some general advice: - Look at the 'who' list what names are already being used, having a name that looks very similar to that of another player might cause confusion - Don't make your name too long, shorter names make it easier for other players to give you tell, heal you, etc. (by the time an air priest has typed a name like 'Gpoweripqb' you might already have died). - If you are uncertain of your name candidate, try to google it: If you'll get millions of hits, the name is most probably against the name policy. - If you are uncertain about your name, ask on public channels such as 'newbie' or 'ice'.
