After years of training their body and mind skilled monks know every inch of their body thoroughly and how it works. Because of that they also know how to manipulate their and other people's bodies. This allows them to relieve pain and make the body heal faster or relieve physical stress and make the body recuperate faster or to relax them and allow their mind clear faster but in exchange they have to sacrifice something else to make that happen. For example when your body is healing faster it can be really stressful for your body and make you feel weak and not able to recuperate properly.
