Commoners telling folktales about vampires call the vampire's bite 'the kiss of death'. The bite can vary from subtle kiss that pricks the skin lightly to let some blood out to ravenous bite that tears open the major arteries in the neck and bleeds the target to death. Draining life energy from a being can only happen while it is alive as after its soul departs from its body the drained blood no longer holds its life essence.

This basically means that you have to drain your victims while engaged in combat with them as they rarely are willing to allow you to bite them. While this ability is usually used to drink blood it also can be used as a spell. The caster releases some of his life essence and blows it gently out between his lips towards his opponent. The released corrupted life essence attacks target's soul and tries to destroy it completely, leaving behind only a pale husk that used to be the victim's body.

Masters of the dark arts are able to grasp some of the life essence from their spell's victims just before they are about to enter the nether plane. Kiss of death can also be used to start combat by using it at your target.
