At some point of his life a shapeshifter becomes used to simple shapeshifting of his own body and wants to perfect every aspect of his'. bestial form simply becoming better than the real animals that he is trying to imitate with shapeshifting. Knowledge in this does not simply allow a shapeshifter to do that but also become able to shapeshift even more objects, that he is wearing, along with him.
