Being confronted face to face by one of them is more than most men can take and their stern gaze drives their victims into catatonic state that leaves them extremely vulnerable. Dhamphirs imitate their ancestral power through this spell to momentarily immobilize their foes in combat. Unfortunately it doesn't last that long and their victim is immune to further attempts for some time.
